I never imagined my first month in Congress would be during the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, but here we are. Especially since it started when the president and his party had full control of both chambers of the legislature. It’s unbelievable.
Today, I’m voting for the TENTH time to end the Trump shutdown and reopen the government so that 800,000 federal workers can get back to work. The question is, will Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell do something about it?
So far, McConnell has refused to bring our last nine legislative efforts to reopen the government to a vote in the Senate, displaying loyalty to our hostage-taker president instead of the American people.
Here’s the deal: we can end this shutdown today. Democrats and Republicans in the House have already come together time and time again to do so. If Trump is going to continue his temper tantrum and hold federal workers hostage as they struggle to pay the bills, then it’s time McConnell step up and do his job.
If you agree it’s time we end this harmful chapter in our country’s history and get our federal employees and contractors back to work, add your name to demand McConnell bring our latest bill to reopen the government up for a vote now.
We can and should debate comprehensive immigration reform and border security without putting hundreds of thousands of Americans and millions of families in financial turmoil. Anything else is irresponsible and downright shameful.
