Ironworkers Local 229 has become the latest influential labor organization to endorse Democrat Mike Levin for Congress in CA49.
“We need a Congress that is fighting for the working families, for middle class jobs that allow you to buy a home, save for school and retire with dignity,” stated Johnny Galvan Business Manager FS/T of the Ironworkers Union Local 229 San Diego. “That’s why we are supporting Mike Levin. As a clean energy advocate, Mike Levin has been working to invest in a prosperous future with great opportunities for real careers. Mike Levin will support policies that benefit all Americans, not just the wealthy.”
With 1,450 highly skilled members in San Diego and Imperial counties, Local 229 represents construction workers who do structural and reinforcing ironwork. 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Local 229, making it one of the oldest unions in the region.
“It is no exaggeration to say that San Diego County owes its built environment to the workers of Local 229,” responded Mike Levin. “Today, they are building our future, and through their strong apprenticeship programs, are training the highly-skilled and well-paid employees our region will need. I am truly honored to have the support of the Ironworkers for my campaign.”
Earlier this week, Levin announced the support of the Southwestern District Council of Carpenters. In addition, Levin has just released fundraising numbers for the first quarter of 2018, showing that he has raised over $315,000 for the quarter – the fifth consecutive $300,000 plus quarter. In just over a year, Levin has raised an impressive $1.55 million from over 15,000 individual donors.
Clearly, Levin, given his strong endorsements, powerful field campaign and impressive fundraising, has emerged as the strongest Democratic candidate in CA49.
