Mike Levin is proud to announce that he has been endorsed for Congress by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, Locals 13, 63, and 94, which represent Southern California dock workers.
ILWU is a union with a storied history of effective efforts to protect the rights of working men and women. Founded in 1937, ILWU effectively represents more than 42,000 workers at ports up and down the West Coast.
“Mike Levin understands that California’s economy is directly linked to healthy international trade,” stated Local 13 President Mark Mendoza. “We trust Mike Levin to work to support and strengthen the international ties that have made our region an economic powerhouse. We also know that Mike will fight to protect the health, safety and standard of living for those who labor in out ports. We urge all working families to support Mike Levin.”
“ILWU Locals 13, 63 and 94 make solid middle class jobs available for their members, jobs that allow people to buy a home, afford health care and send their kids to college,” stated Levin in response to the endorsement. “Those who ask if labor unions are relevant need to look to the history and record of the ILWU. I am honored to have their support.”
Mike Levin is the leading Democratic candidate running to replace Republican Darrell Issa in the California 49th District which straddles San Diego and Orange Counties. Levin has received many of the race’s biggest endorsements to date, with early support from Congressmembers Adam Schiff, Tony Cardenas and Jimmy Gomez, State Controller Betty Yee, the National Organization for Women (NOW) and many local City Councilmembers and Mayors.
