FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 5/27/18
The Leadership Team of Indivisible Ocean Hills met to answer this pressing question: “Which candidate is the most likely, with the support of Indivisible Ocean Hills and Ocean Hills Democrats, to win the California 49th House seat in June and in November?”
After much deliberation and debate, we are recommending that you vote for Mike Levin.
Neither the process nor the decision was easy, and we are aware that our position may be unpopular with some of our members who prefer a different candidate. We had truly hoped that one candidate would take a clear and substantial lead in the polls so that we could throw our support behind that candidate. The polls, unfortunately continue to show a very, very close race, and it became clear that we would need to take a stand to avoid splitting the vote as much as possible.
We examined in some detail the strengths and weaknesses of the four candidates who support our mission (to stop the Trump agenda). All four share similar positions on the issues, so we focused on electability. We considered:
- Demographic appeal
- Campaign strength
- Candidate strength vs a pro-Trump opponent
All of the candidates have their strengths and weaknesses, and we debated these thoroughly. We refrained from pushing our preferred candidates and focused entirely on which one had the best chance to win, not only in June, but in November. Our conclusion is that Mike Levin has the broad support, the strong organization, the solid financing, the least vulnerability, and the personal appeal to carry the two elections that will take him to Washington.
We hope you will support our recommendation with your vote, but if you feel you can’t, please be sure your vote is for a candidate you sincerely believe can win. If not, it becomes a vote for a Trump ticket in November.
Thank you for your passion and your action.
