The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 569, which represents 3,400 electricians, power professionals and their families in San Diego and Imperial County, has endorsed Democrat Mike Levin to replace Darrell Issa in CD49.
“Mike Levin will stand up to the anti-labor agenda in Washington DC and fight for a better life for all working families,” stated Gretchen Newsom, Political Director of Local 569. “As fellow strong supporters of renewable energy, IBEW 569 is looking forward to working with Mike Levin to strengthen the green economy and create more clean energy, good-paying jobs for our trained workforce. We are proud to support Mike Levin for Congress.”
IBEW 569 is the second major union to endorse Mike Levin in recent days. In late October, The International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), Locals 13, 63 & 94 announced their support for Levin.
“I am so excited to have the support of IBEW, Local 569,” responded Levin. “They are quite literally building the future. I have been so impressed with their progressive leadership on environmental issues, including working with the Sierra Club to support San Diego’s 100% clean energy goal by 2035.”
Mike Levin is the leading Democratic candidate challenging Darrell Issa in California’s CD49. Issa was recently named the most endangered Republican incumbent in Congress.
Mike Levin has over a decade of experience in the clean energy industry, helping to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable power generation and transportation options. He has served for several years on the board of the Center for Sustainable Energy, based in San Diego, and co-founded Sustain OC in Orange County.
