VISTA, CA –Today, leading California Democrat Fiona Ma announced her endorsement of clean energy attorney Mike Levin for the 49th District Congressional seat currently held by Republican Darrell Issa. Ma is the past Chair of the California Board of Equalization and was named Emerge California’s Woman of the Year in 2016.
“Mike Levin has a strong record of clean energy advocacy, two decades of experience in Democratic politics, and is tirelessly working in the community to promote a strong progressive message,” said Ma. “Mike has what it takes to defeat Darrell Issa next year.”
Ma, a certified public accountant, was elected to the Board of Equalization in 2014 and selected Chair in 2016. She previously served as the Majority Whip and Speaker Pro Tempore of the California State Assembly, and also spent four years on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. She was the first Asian-American woman to serve as Speaker Pro Tempore in the Assembly. In these roles she has championed countless progressive issues to protect children, support women and families, and preserve our natural environment.
“I am very grateful to have Fiona Ma’s support,” said Levin. “She has a long history of community and family advocacy, both at the local and state level. I look forward to working with her to fight for our shared values for many years to come.”
Levin was raised in South Orange County, where he attended public schools. He graduated from Stanford University, where he served as student body president, and Duke University School of Law.
