SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA –Today, San Juan Capistrano Mayor Pro Tem Sergio Farias announced his endorsement of environmental attorney Mike Levin for the 49th District Congressional seat currently held by Republican Darrell Issa.
“As a resident of San Juan Capistrano, Mike Levin understands community concerns and will be an effective advocate in Washington,” said Mayor Pro Tem Farias. “I am impressed by his background as an environmental attorney and clean energy advocate, as well as his desire to engage with local stakeholders,” he added.
“I am honored to have Sergio Farias endorse our campaign,” said Levin. “Sergio has deep roots in San Juan Capistrano and represents the voice of a new grassroots progressive generation of leaders committed to improving our communities.”
Mayor Pro Tem Farias was born and raised in San Juan Capistrano. The son of Mexican immigrants, he attended local public schools. He has been a neighborhood leader and volunteer in San Juan Capistrano for more than a decade. He has assisted residents with obtaining legal representation in addition to other resources and has a been a consistent voice for his community.
Levin was raised in South Orange County, where he attended public schools. He graduated from Stanford University, where he served as student body president, and Duke University School of Law. He was the Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Orange County and has worked since as an environmental attorney and clean energy advocate. For the last two decades, he has been involved in a variety of local, state and federal progressive political campaigns.
The New York Times recently called Issa “probably the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent.”
