SAN DIEGO, CA –Today, San Diego City Councilmember Chris Ward announced his endorsement of environmental attorney Mike Levin for the 49th District Congressional seat currently held by Republican Darrell Issa.
“Mike Levin will be a champion for the residents of San Diego and our region,” said Councilmember Ward. “I am impressed by his background as an environmental attorney and clean energy advocate, as well as his desire to engage with local stakeholders,” he added.
“I am honored to have Chris Ward endorse our campaign,” said Levin. “He is a terrific grassroots community leader and I look forward to working with him to address pressing issues like homelessness and housing affordability, as well as community choice energy.”
Councilmember Ward was elected to the San Diego City Council, District 3 seat, in June 2016. He previously served as the Chief of Staff to State Senator Marty Block, also representing the communities of District 3 and most of the City of San Diego. In these capacities, he has been strongly committed to excellence in constituent services, facilitating public participation in policymaking, and organizing state and local resources to make our neighborhoods a better place every day.
Levin was raised in South Orange County, where he attended public schools. He graduated from Stanford University, where he served as student body president, and Duke University School of Law. He was the Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Orange County and has worked since as an environmental attorney and clean energy advocate. For the last two decades, he has been involved in a variety of local, state and federal progressive political campaigns.
The New York Times recently called Issa “probably the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent.”
