Mike Levin, Democratic candidate against Congressmember Darrell Issa in the 2018 election, released the following statement after President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement:

Today is the day we stopped leading on global climate change. This isn’t who we are.

I’ve spent my career fighting to protect our planet. Leaving the Paris Agreement is devastating — not only for our country, but the world.

This shouldn’t be partisan. This is common sense. Trump’s decision effectively makes us a global embarrassment.

Thanks to President Obama, over 190 nations signed the Paris Agreement — even China and Russia. We’ve now gone from a leader to a laughingstock.

Meanwhile, Darrell Issa has nothing to say about Trump’s embarrassing decision — he’s got Trump’s back once again.

I encourage California to sign the Paris Agreement as a symbolic but meaningful gesture on behalf of America.

If Trump and Issa won’t lead, we will.
