Mike believes that the way we treat animals reflects the values that we hold, which is why he has been such a strong advocate for the protection of wild and domestic animals, and the protection of the habitats of threatened and endangered species.
Throughout the Trump Administration, Mike stood up to protect endangered species and their habitats. He cosponsored the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act to protect threatened species, the Coastal and Marine Economies Protection Act to block new offshore drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coastlines, and the Arctic Cultural and Coastal Plain Protection Act to stop drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska.
Mike was also proud to help pass the Great American Outdoors Act, landmark legislation he cosponsored that provides permanent and full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Mike also cosponsored a variety of legislation to eliminate cruel treatment toward animals in the United States, including the Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture (PACT) Act and the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act. He also signed onto the WOOF! Act to prevent licenses from being issued to dealers of dogs who have had their license revoked, and the Big Cat Public Safety Act to ban private ownership of big cats like tigers, lions, and leopards.
