SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA – Mike Levin, an environmental attorney, clean energy advocate, and longtime community champion, today announced his campaign for California’s 49th Congressional District against Darrell Issa.

“As a proud husband and dad of two small children, I care very deeply about the quality of life we’re creating for future generations. That means world-class schools, jobs for the future, clean air and water, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, and a government that’s transparent and accountable to all of us.” Levin said.

Levin was raised in South Orange County, where he attended public schools.  He graduated from Stanford University, where he served as student body president, and Duke University School of Law. He was the Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Orange County and then worked as an attorney focusing on environmental regulatory compliance and government advocacy. Levin is a passionate believer in clean energy and has over a decade of experience in the industry, helping to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable power generation and transportation options. He sits on the board of the Center for Sustainable Energy, based in San Diego, and co-founded Sustain OC in Orange County. For his work in clean energy, he was named to the OC METRO 40 under 40. Levin lives with his wife, Chrissy, and children, ages 4 and 3, in San Juan Capistrano.

“American democracy is founded on the bedrock principle of effective checks and balances,” stated Levin. “Darrell Issa, in his role as Chair of the House Oversight Committee, launched numerous, time and tax consuming investigations into the previous administration, which revealed nothing. Now, faced with mounting evidence of conflicts of interest, dishonesty and malfeasance in the administration of Donald Trump, a candidate he enthusiastically backed, Issa is failing to exercise the independence and courage that our nation so desperately needs. It is time for a change.”

California’s 49th Congressional District stretches across North County San Diego and Southern Orange County and has been represented by Darrell Issa since 2001. Recently, The New York Times called Issa “the nation’s most vulnerable incumbent.”
